What a crazy film “El Ángel Exterminador” was to watch, I feel Buñuel would have really enjoyed watching “2001: A Space Odyssey” as a lot of themes of human control tend to overlap, who knows maybe he did watch it ha-ha. This is a difficult film to write about, honestly, I wish I were so much more informed about religious icons, human psychology, and even just a better understanding of social-political topics, and I could rave on how great a job this film did at commenting on those topics. To me, this is Buñuel’s most talkative film, not because of the dialogue but because of just how much and how little he says – even his son’s description of the film feels like it talks about everything, yet says nothing – perhaps that itself is a comment on the system us humans have caged ourselves in.
