Last week we watch “Exterminating Angel”. At first I was confused, why didn’t they just leave. However I think the trust that Buñuel puts into the audience to disregard that is very powerful. He allows the audience to create a reason and then watch the character fall apart— or more so fall back into animalistic ways. The shots let us not know each character too deeply but still want to know what will happen to them. By not letting us connect so much with the character we don’t grow a bond but we sill want to know will happen to them, therefore we fell no retreat for the characters when they pass or get bullied by the others. It is truly a test of humanity for the viewers and characters.
