Weekly Response 5 — Saiss Cruz

Very beautiful site! It’s interesting – it feels weird to say, but being that I’m from a country that’s been colonized by a Spaniard power and intermingled with my ancestors, this is technically part of my history as well (I guess that’s be trying to reclaim the power in that statement ha-ha) it makes me just get very introspective about my own genetic history, as much as it sucks say those who were a part of subjugating a big part of my people, also led to creating a new branch of people that share both histories and that’s where I land, despite the negativity associated in that it really is such a long standing and beautiful culture, it’s interesting to see what aspects of this history created the one that I grew up with, whether that’s the language I speak, the bread we bake, or the routine of a coffee in the morning – I can’t help but look at these gorgeous murals of Spanish women dancing in bright dresses, or caballeros moving cattle across the lands, and think of my people still doing the same thing.
